I live in Dallas and have been without a car approaching 2 years now. I write about transportation & housing on my blog ThisDallasLife.com and on my podcast "By Way Of Dallas". Someone gave me a heads up you'll be in Dallas today. Hit me up if you want to talk!

I'm in Austin, total transit geek, I've ridden every bus route in Austin, and am working on riding every passenger train in America. Would totally be down to show off our modest (but ambitious) transit system.

Hey Jack, fellow transit geeks unite! I would love that! I am staying with a dear friend of mine outside of Austin, she might be keen to come along too. I think I can find your email in my subscribers list, would you mind if I sent you a quick note? :)

I live just north of Charlotte, NC in Cornelius (just two hours from Asheville). My hobby, if you will, is hosting and hospitality. I host travelling musicians, international college students, and interpreters from around the world. I would love to host you for a day, or many, offering respite, good food, laundry facilities and conversation. We could also tour the area via eBikes. Please message me if you'd like to detour my way.

Oh wow Frances, thank you so much! It sounds like you have some great stories to tell! I will see if I can wing a detour, it's a bit tricky with the bus route, but please let's keep in touch. Maybe I can send you a few questions as well! :)

Cindy again I can also take you to a small art gallery near here that is totally amazing. The artist is a good friend and loves to tell stories also. Hers are better than mine sometimes.

I live in north Little Rock I don’t have a place for you to stay but would love to sit and talk over lunch or dinner. I can tell you about the best sunset in the world. Message me, and we can make arrangements.

I am near Knoxville, TN. I have done a bunch of hitch-hiking and public transit travelling in South America, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific Northwest US, but surprisingly little in my native south (though I did once bike from Knoxville to Sparta).

I'd be happy to chat, and if you pass this way, perhaps connect in person.

Hey Charles, amazing thank you for reaching out! I think most people I know who travel without cars in the South of US tend to do so via bicycle, although I'm thinking cycling around Knoxville would requires some strong leg muscles, ha. I've passed through Knoxville so many times in my life but actually know basically nothing about it besides that's where the rocks sometimes fall along the highway and it's close to Dollywood, ha! I'd love to hear your thoughts, can you send me a message here with your email address? Thank you for reading :)

Not sure how to direct message on substack. I sent you a message via instagram (convoluted I know, sorry...), its probably in one of your folders other than primary. My instagram is jiu.jitsu.field.guides

And yes, biking around here can be brutal. That bike trip to Sparta was supposed to be a trip to visit my grandmother in Murfreesboro. I called and asked her to come get me on the second day. Wimped out... But I was like 19 or 20, so I'll cut myself some slack. Fortitude is rarely a youthful virtue.

I love this idea that Florida is a contemporary horror when it's one of the best places to be, hey it keeps the ferals out 😁🤠

Lol I've only been to a few touristy places. I'd love to know it better. A bus trip through Florida would no doubt reveal so much about the American psyche as well. Maybe that's next year. ;)

In Bowling Green, KY go visit the Corvette museum. BG is the only finishing plant for Corvette’s.

I know the bus comes through Charlotte, and I am happy to pick you up, and get you back on your route! Though I know you are keeping to public transportation, I would still offer to drive you to Asheville if that would help. Keep me posted.
